It's been awhile since my last post!

Sorry that it has been awhile since my last post but I thought since we are less than two days away from 2009 I would get back in touch. I know most people for the New Year make resolutions such as dieting, exercising but after a week or two those resolutions are forgotten about. So I thought what better way than to make a resolution that is geared to maintaining your stability when it comes BP. Some great resolutions to make for example are making sure you take your medicine regularly, trying to get adequate amount of sleep nightly. Ok, I guess I will have to also include exercising but a better way to look at is making sure you stay active daily. Remember do not forget to laugh because laughter can go a great way in brightening your day. So until 2009 Have a Happy and Healthy New Year! And do not forget stay active and safe!

Sorry I have not posted in a while But here is some more good advice to remember!

With the Holidays fast approaching such as Thanksgiving and Christmas it is important for people who deal with Bipolar Disorder to stay on top of their habits and watch for signs that could lead to a episode. Whether it is a manic or depressive either way you want to try to avoid them as much as possible. One great ways is by making sure you don't get into bad habits such as staying up late or eating the wrong foods. Try to avoid sweet foods it is fine to eat the occasional sweet here and there but do not over do it because it could lead to a severe episode. Try not to stay out too late or up to long it is certainly fine to do on one or two occasions but do not make it a trend.
For some the Holidays are the worst of times because this is the time of year when they have to deal with a depressive episode it could just happen because they are lonely or their family is not coming over this year. Simple things like this can trigger an episode but make sure you stay diligent and be on the up and up so you can stay stable so you will be able to enjoy the Holidays with your family and friends. So until next time stay active and safe!

Volunteering your time

When you may be dealing with Bipolar Disorder or even getting over a episode its always great to volunteer your time to someone or to some organization. Volunteering not only gives you something to do but it also takes were mind off of your problems and also makes you feel good knowing that you have helped someone or made a difference in your community. This can easily boost your confidence and build your self-esteem which is vital when dealing with Bipolar Disorder. Especially when your having a depressive episode or just getting over one.
Volunteering your time is gratifying to not only yourself but to whomever your volunteering for or where ever your volunteering at. Some great places to volunteer at are your local shelter, the local dog pound, the local YMCA or even the local community center. Finding the right support for yourself

It is important to have the right support system when dealing with Bipolar Disorder and that all starts with having the right supporter. It can be a parent, a sibling, a friend and even a neighbor. This person should be reliable and they should be a person you can count on to look after you when your going through a episode. Supporters are compassionate they help you but they should not have to things like bathe you, administer your medicine or put your clothes on for you. Supporters should be around to give you encouragement, help you gain your confidence and self-esteem back and also help in preventing episodes from occurring.
Supporters should help in looking for the warning signs of an impending episodes and remind you what you should do in order to stop it from occurring. It sounds easier said than done but if you find the right supporter who is concerned for your well being and wants to see you happy and succeeding in your life then you will be glad he or she came around to help in your path to recovery. Until next time stay active and safe!

Living Life to the Fullest

Regardless if you have Bipolar Disorder or any other illness for that matter you have to live your life to the fullest keep a positive attitude and live for each day. Make it a point to do something each day that is different from your last. It can be the simplest thing such as riding a bike, taking a walk or watching your favorite sport. Make sure to incorporate change each day because it helps getting you through problems and hardships in our lives. Remember life is difficult for us all, it is how we deal with it that counts the most. The number one thing to always follow is never give up in your life no matter how hard things get. I too have gone through hardships and still deal with them today but I know I need to keep a positive attitude and just give it my all each day. Well that is my advice for today. Until next time stay active and safe!

Setting out to Accomplish your Dreams and Goals

Everyone has dreams some are small dreams while others are big dreams but all are dreams that can be accomplish regardless of your circumstances. Those who deal with Bipolar Disorder are often told to give up on their dreams because they will never be able to accomplish what it is they set out to do. That is a lie and myth, even though you may have Bipolar Disorder that should never deter you from reaching and accomplishing your dreams. Do not let an obstacle such as Bipolar Disorder get in the way of any of your dreams or goals that you want to accomplish. The one important thing to do is surround yourself with people who are supportive of your dreams and goals and can encourage you to never give up on them.
I know setting goals and having dreams may be difficult when going through a depressive episode but you can easily write one or two goals down on paper and return to them at a later time. Same goes for dreams you have for the future be sure to write them down and you can go back to them to make sure that you don't give up on them.
So once again let me say be sure to set goals and have dreams for your future just because you may have Bipolar Disorder it does not mean you have to give up on your goals and dreams just keep reaching and working hard and you will see how much you can really accomplish along the way.
Until next time stay active and safe!

The Pros and Cons of Support Groups

Most patients who have Bipolar Disorder don't know if support groups are effective or not. So I thought I would just go over some of the Pros and Cons of Support Groups. First I will give you the Pros.
1. Support Groups allow you to share not only problems you may be having but also possible solutions with others who may be going to the same problems as you.
2. Support Groups are a great way to meet others who go through the same ups and downs that you experience.
3. Support Groups are an excellent way to build up friendships.
4. Support Groups allow you and others who care for you to express their feelings.
5. Support Groups give you hope that things will truly be alright.

Now onto the Cons of Support Groups
1. Support Groups tend to bring together people who share only criticisms of people who deal with Bipolar Disorder.
2. Support Groups leaves the Bipolar sufferer feeling worst because they are not given any hope to overcome their problems.
3. Support Groups sometimes have attendees that whine and complain about how bad they have it but can not do anything to change it.
4. Support Groups sometimes can lead to arguments and disagreements which can be very detrimental to a person's progress who has Bipolar Disorder.
5. Support Groups do not always give you useful coping strategies and sometimes leave you feeling empty.
Well, those are the Pros and Cons of Support Groups. Again support groups do often help but sometimes they can also bring along more stress and hardship. There are many options for anyone who has Bipolar Disorder you just have to be the one that takes the first step in asking for help.
Until next time stay active and safe!

Don't let Bipolar Disorder Take Over Your Life

It is very important to not let Bipolar Disorder take over your life. You should not allow the Disorder stand in your way of accomplishing whatever it is you want to accomplish. These accomplishments do not have to be huge. They can be as small as getting out and taking a walk or even going to see a friend to talk to. Believe me it would do you a lot of good if you got out of your same routine and did something you may have not done in a while.
One trap that people who are dealing with Bipolar Disorder tend to fall into is isolating themselves from the outside world they simply shut themselves out of everything that is going on including staying away from family and not attending family functions. I know this firsthand because I have done it myself, even though it may be difficult to approach or embarrassing to show yourself at family functions it can do you a lot of good. The interaction with people will be comforting and also it helps to take your mind off of problems that may have been bothering you lately.
So until next time stay active and safe!

If your struggling to stay on track here are 7 ways to stay on track

1. Don't be lazy, you may be without a job or your collecting disability. You may lose your sense of direction when you have nothing to wake up for each morning. So don't get lazy because your not working. One thing you can do is make a can do list and follow it out each day. Something that will help you get out of bed and accomplish a day's goal.

2. Make Sure you stick to your treatment plan, see your doctor regularly and therapist, take your medicine, eat right, sleep right and exercise daily.

3. Try to make a Buddy System, it can be someone from a support group or someone who knows what you are going through and might be going through the same struggles as you. You can talk to this person, do things together such as going to a see a movie or grabbing something to eat.

4. Try to be Independent, try to do things yourself and not depend on others to be there to wait on you hand and foot. Believe me when you have some independence it makes you feel so much more confident and proud of yourself.

5. Give yourself a pat on the back once in awhile, commend yourself for something you may have accomplished or share it with someone you care about. Doing this makes you feel so great and also more happy.

6. Don't ever give up always say you can get back up or over whatever you maybe going through and you most certainly will. Never say you can't get over something or that your life will never get better because it will you just have to have patience and take one day at a time.

7. Finally the last one is to always have confidence in your abilities and in yourself because you never know how far it can get you until you truly try to make the best of every precious moment you have on this earth. Make sure to live each day to the fullest and never give up.
Until next time stay active and safe!

Learning from your own faults

When someones who has bipolar disorder its always important to learn from your mistakes and learn from you own faults that you have made in the past. Like myself I had a tendency to stay up very late but now and for the past couple of months have gone to bed earlier which has really made me feel good. I also had a lousy habit of eating snacks and lots of junk food I have since cut down on my junk food intake and substituted with more fruit and vegetables which also has given me more energy and made me feel great.
See little mistakes or even big mistakes you may have made in past are always good to remember because you can learn to prevent yourself from making the same mistake again or committing the same fault over again.
Another way to learn from your faults is to go back or think about what may have caused a manic or depressive episode and try not to make the same mistake again. This is a great way to prevent episodes from occurring way to often in person that may be dealing with Bipolar Disorder.
Until next time stay active and safe!

A Poem about Bipolar Disorder

This is a poem I wrote some time ago that I thought I would share with you.

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder is like a roller coaster
that go's up and drops right down
It grabs hold of your life
and squeezes very hard with all
its might until you give in with all
your fears in plain sight.
Bipolar Disorder tries to consume
your every thought and take over your
whole darn life.
Bipolar Disorder clouds your mind and
swallows you up until you decide
Enough is Enough and You
Want To Take Back Your Life!

Tackling Depression

This article can be especially helpful to those who struggle with depressive episodes and those who have been diagnosed with Depression but not Bipolar Disorder.

I know firsthand how depression can easily takeaway the things in which you love doing the most and how it can also keep you away from the people you love spending the most time with.
Myself, have dealt with depression and through the years learned how to deal with and tackle depression head on through littlest of things that I will go into shortly.
Depression is very consuming it overtakes most of your life and makes you feel hopeless, worthless, stressful and completely drained.

Some of the things that you can do to tackle depression are exercising daily for 15 to 30 minutes just to make you feel better. You can also do what I am doing here writing, it takes your mind off of other things that maybe bothering you but you just can not seem to get rid of.
Another, way is to read an interesting novel, article or any other form of reading so you focus on something other than what maybe bringing you down. Talking to friends or family can also help it can relieve some of the stress, the feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness all of which develop during depression.

I have found throughout my dealing with depression that seeking out help from a trained professional such as a therapist or psychiatrist can also help in just having someone to talk to you can do wonders. If you need they can also suggest that you see a doctor that may prescribe medicine to you that you can take to help in keeping you depression free.

All of these suggestions and also the methods that I used with dealing with depression are just some of the very suggestions and methods that worked for me. There are definitely many other ways to tackle depression you just have to try any activity that can keep your mind occupied and also remember there is always someone out there that is willing to listen to your problems. Remember your not alone and you can get through depression just do not give up.

Dealing With Bipolar Disorder

This Article is an article I have written a while back but it is a very good article that can really help any individual who may have just been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder.

Having Bipolar Disorder is not as bad as it sounds and certainly is not as bad as it may seem. Dealing with Bipolar Disorder can seem like a daunting task but it can actually be easy to deal with if you have the right treatment plan and receive support from your family and friends.I Myself have Bipolar Disorder, I was first diagnosed at the age of 18. It has been about eleven years since I was first diagnosed but since that time I have been able to develop a excellent treatment plan and receive the support I need to live the life I am use to.
One of the most important aspect in dealing with Bipolar Disorder is to make sure you have an excellent treatment plan. A treatment plan is comprised of having a regular doctor that you can count on when your in need of medicine and advice. The second part of the plan is having a therapist that can help you deal with your Bipolar Disorder. He or she can help by guiding you in your recovery process and also by being there in your time of need.
Most people who do not have a treatment plan or fail to follow their treatment plan seem to to have many setbacks. They have a harder time dealing with Bipolar disorder and also in trying to figure out what triggered a depressive or manic episode. They are less informed about their illness and they simply do not care of whether or not they ever get better.
Another, great way that helps in dealing with Bipolar Disorder is by keeping a journal, this allows you to keep track of your progress, keep you addressed about your symptoms and figure out possible triggers that cause a episode. Keeping a journal can also help with the progress being made with your treatment plan from helping you to remember to take your medicine to helping you keep up with your appointments.
Remember when dealing with Bipolar Disorder you should also try to keep a schedule of your daily task from the time you get up to the time you go the bed. One reason why it is important to keep a schedule is because one of the biggest triggers of an episode is disruption in your daily life whether it is lack of sleep, not exercising or a change in your diet. Having a schedule can help to prevent a depressive or manic episodes from occurring and also help you to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
There are many common triggers that can cause depressive or manic episodes but some can easily be avoided. Some of the triggers that are easy to avoid are the ones like when you stop taking your medicine because your feeling better or you start sleeping less because you want to stay out later or stay up longer. Other triggers such as misusing alcohol or drugs are much harder to overcome thus making it harder to avoid.
Following or at least trying to carry out some of the above advice will definitely help you deal with Bipolar Disorder and also help you in your road to recovery. So if you or someone you know uses theses simple measures they will have a greater chance of staying on top of their illness and also help themselves to make the process of dealing with Bipolar Disorder that much easier.
Bipolar Disorder might be a life long illness but always remember it can easily be dealt with if you have the right treatment plan and you take the necessary steps to help in your road to recovery. It does take time to get back to the life you truly cherish so do not ever give up hope or get discouraged!

Getting back to fighting Bipolar

Fighting Bipolar is difficult but one can make it easier as I said before if you follow a treatment plan and you have one in place. This means to see your doctor on a regular basis, follow up with your therapist and I stress take your medicines. The other parts of the treatment plan are just as important as the first three I mentioned and that is to watch your diet, exercise regularly and try to stay active.
Bipolar Disorder tries to take over your life but you are the only one that can prevent that from happening. It is very important to have a treatment plan in place and you should follow it through even if you are feeling 100 % stable. Having a treatment plan can keep you on the right track and it can definitely keep you stable.
So until next time stay active and safe.

Ways to Prevent Stress Related Episodes

One of the biggest ways one can prevent an episode from occurring is by eliminating the amount of stress in their life. For example if you have a stressful job maybe it would help if you found another job that is less stressful. You do not have to quit your job right away but if you search the want ads send out some resumes maybe you can find a job you love and one that is less stressful. Another, way to relieve stress is by not getting on yourself about making mistakes or not letting go of the past. Try to this and you see how much less stress you have in your life.
One of the biggest ways to relieve stress is by trying to pay off debts if you have them, everybody knows that having a large amount of debts brings along a lot of stress. Ways you can work at paying your debts is by saving more and spending less. The more you save can be the little extra that you pay to get your debts in check.
One huge source of stress can come from family relationships ways you can reduce your stress from relationships is by maybe spending less time with them, requesting a family member to become peacemaker or even a negotiator between whomever you have been arguing with or fighting with. One last way is suggesting group or family counseling to work out any problems or disagreement you may be having.
The main thing to remember is to deal with stress early on rather than letting it build up more and more. When you this you will help to reduce the chance of a stress-related episode from occurring.

Perseverance, Confidence and Attitude why are they so important when dealing with or recovering from Bipolar Disorder?
Perseverance means to keep on striving even when times are difficult, this is extremely true to a person who has Bipolar Disorder. They need to continue persevering and make sure they do not give up hope.

The Importance of Commending Yourself

Just as important it is to commend yourself when dealing with any form of illness it is just the same with Bipolar Disorder to commend yourself on accomplishing different aspects of your recovery. It could be anything from being stable and staying stable, to setting goals and accomplishing those goals. So, the point I am trying to convey is that it is very important to give yourself a path on the back and commend yourself each time you make another stride in your recovery.
Until next time stay active and safe!

Don't Let Bipolar Define Your Life!

A person who is dealing with Bipolar Disorder should not let Bipolar Disorder define their life. They should not use Bipolar Disorder as an excuse nor should they let Bipolar Disorder control their life. These statements are probably easier said than done but if you follow all the tips and advice I have been writing about the last couple of months it should be easier than you think. Remember do not let Bipolar Disorder define your life. You are a person first and foremost, what defines you secondly is your profession and third it can be any other thing that you may think defines you. After, you go over everything that defines you, then include that you have a Illness that being Bipolar Disorder.

The many ways to stay active to prevent an episode

There are many ways one can stay active to prevent an episode, the one that really stands out the most is getting exercise at least three times a week. Just going for a walk around the block or slow jog can help or if you prefer you can even join a gym or a fitness program at your local park. Getting exercise helps to stimulate the growth of neurons in the brain that are damage during depression also it helps to reduce symptoms of depression nearly as effective as anti-depressants.
Exercise is an integral part of your daily routine that can help or at least prevent an episode from occurring. Remember, you can not always prevent an episode from occuring but you can follow certain activities and other daily routines such as your diet, sleeping habits and of course your exercising regime to at least stay on top of your depression.
Until next time stay active and safe!

The Keys for preparing for an episode

The keys to prepare for an episode are:

1. Make sure you have money saved in a checking or savings account because you may need it if your hospitalized and unable to work.
2. Make sure your information for doctor's, therapist, psychiatrist, local hospital as well as family and friends are readily available.
3. Let it be known or even write down the treatments you are receiving the medicines your taking and if there are any special dosage instructions to be given.
4. Lastly write down anything that can be done in your absence or if your unable to, such as housekeeping or grocery shopping.

The aspects that your supporter should be in charge of comes down to how much you want your supporter to cover. If you want he or she to cover all aspects then leave them in charge of everything or you can spread out different task to family and friends in case of an emergency.

Well, that is all for today, once again stay active and safe. Next time I will write about how medicine and activity work hand in hand.

Setting Goals while in recovery

It is important to set goals for yourself in the early stages of recovery. You do not have to set huge goals like saying I will move into a new apartment next month. Rather, try setting simpler goals for yourself, like saying tomorrow and all next week I will take a walk around the neighborhood. Simple goals guide you in the right direction in the recovery process and they give you something to look forward to each day. If you want you can try to set goals before each day begins, this helps in the beginning of the recovery process. As you progress in your recovery you can take a look at different aspects of your life and contemplate about short term and long term goals. Remember setting goals and eventually reaching your goals will give you that feeling of accomplishment which can really go a long way.
Next time I will write about some more ways to tackle Bipolar Disorder.
Until next stay safe and stay active!

How a support net can Help

When dealing with and trying to tackle Bipolar Disorder it is important to surround yourself with a support net which should include health care providers such as Psychiatrist, Psychoanalyst and Doctors. Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder

I know I have gone over treatment plans, medicines, self care but I have failed to mention the symptoms that come along with Bipolar Disorder. The symptoms differ from a depressive episode to a manic episode during a depressive episode you lose interest in normal activities, you feel like your hopeless, worthless or have thoughts of guilt. You may be sleeping too little or too much, their may also be noticeable weight loss. You often feel tired and possess little or no energy. Last but not least is one that most people with Bipolar Disorder experience and that is having difficulty concentrating or making decisions.
When one is experiencing a manic episode the symptoms include increase energy level, less need of sleep, racing thoughts and your mind seems to jump around. Your also easily distracted extremely more talkative and more self-confidence comes along. Plus, when one is in manic episode he or she may focus more on getting things done but accomplishing less. The last seems to effect a lot of people who experience manic episodes that is taking part in risky and unusual activities unaware of the consequences that follow their actions. These may include shopping sprees, sleeping around and other risky activities that can have a long term effect on yourself and your family.

One great thing you should try to do is keep track of your moods and some of the symptoms that you may be dealing with. Trying to learn what might be possible triggers of your mood episodes and finding ways to avoid those things is another way you can help yourself out. The Medicines to treat Bipolar Disorder

The different types of Bipolar Disorder medicines include mood stabilizers they help with delaying and relieve highs and lows that are associated with bipolar.
Another type of medicine is antidepressants usually used along with mood stabilizers for people who deal with depressive episodes.
Antipsychotics are another type of medicine that is mostly used to treat mania episodes, sometimes they also may be used to treat psychosis that can occur during a mania episode or depressive episode. People may also use antipsychotics if they have severe anxiety or are extremely agitated.
