For last eight months I have been attending a Day Program in my state which is called CRP which stands for Community Reintegration Program. It was extremely beneficial to myself I actually experienced a transformation of myself. I started and still continue to exercise, eat right and I actually have gotten out more often amongst friends and neighbors. So you can simply say CRP did me wonders and change my life forever. Without it I could not imagine where I be today. So with that said I am extremely thankful for CRP and all the social workers who made my life a whole lot better. I would not change anything that took place over those eight months. It was a part of my life that I will never forget. Well that is wrong same was true for the Saints who the so called experts thought would lose because the Colts were better and had more experience in the big game.
Well that was wrong just look at the 31-17 victory by the Saints. So always remember when your feeling down because of a depressive episode or reeling from a manic one don't ever give up and don't ever give in. Always know that even though you may feel like an underdog that there is always hope for the underdog's of the world. I am pulling for the Saints but it will definitely be a tough feat to beat the Colts.
Well your probably saying what correlation does this have with Bipolar Disorder, well what a better way to get out of the house and go by your families house or a friends house to have a Superbowl Party. This gets you around more people and puts you in great social setting so you can really enjoy yourself. Even if you are battling Depression or Mania you can definitely use the time away from home and do something different.
Well to keep it short and sweet have a great weekend, plus remember stay active and safe!

Sorry For not posting in quite awhile!

I know I have not posted in quite a while, its mainly because I have had a real up and down start to the New Year. The New Year started off great but that lasted for about just two weeks. I had another bout with a Depressive episode which is currently still having a major effect on me now so if my writing seems off or dull it probably is because I am really having a hard time concentrating on really anything at this moment.
When I am in depressive episode, I know for me everything seems to be going at a snails pace and I feel so Isolated, worthless, helpless, tired, I sleep most of the day because everything just seems so worthless and I figure what's the point to do anything because it certainly won't help me feel better. Isolating from the outside world is really a bad habit I have developed and one which has really caused way too many of my Depressive Episodes. Your family is probably the most obvious to have as support but a friend can also be just as important. When you have a friend that you trust, you will be able to confide in them whenever a problem may arise. After building trust with your friend you will feel comfortable in sharing concerns and problems with each other. This is truly a special bond a person with Bipolar Disorder can develop and it can go a long way on your road to recovery.
When it comes to getting help, people with Bipolar Disorder are sometimes embarrassed to admit that they have a mental illness. You have many options out there to keep you active such as exercising on a daily basis, taking up a hobby, reading a good book, volunteering or even just taking a walk each day. The main point is too stay active because when your active you prevent your mind from dwelling on the negatives. Negatives which can lead to episodes down the line are very hard to overcome but with a little work on staying active you can really avoid any negative feelings from entering your mind.
Let's get started now! So until next time stay active and safe.

Sorry That I haven't Post in quite awhile

I am surely sorry I have not posted in quite awhile, I will try to make up for my time away by trying to post each day. Plus, how negative thinking can halt your chances of reaching stability.
Positive thinking can go a long way when your dealing with Bipolar Disorder not only is it important for the one dealing with BP to be positive but it is also important to surround themselves with people who also have positive attitudes too. When I say positive thinking I mean for instants saying you can reach stability rather than saying you think you will never reach stability and you will always feel down. Having the negative attitude for sure will put a damper on your chances of achieving stability. So when it comes to positive thinking make sure you always give yourself credit and always keep a positive attitude no matter how hard things may seem.
I know firsthand how negative thinking can bring you way down, I know when dealing with depressive episodes my attitude always seems to be negative but I always remember to stay positive and know that the feelings I am having will eventually subside.
So with that said remember positive thinking equals stability and happiness while negative thinking leads to instability and sadness. So until next time stay active and safe.

Sorry for not posting in awhile!

As I recall my last post was June 19th. Since that time I surely have been through a lot its like my memory seems to hinder me. I just got through a long depressive episode, I am feeling a lot better now but I am still feeling the effects of my anxiety. I also have been experiencing tremors it could be from the medicine I take but it also can be just the anxiety that has lingered on since my depressive episode subsided.
Well that is enough venting about what I have been going through the last couple of weeks. It sure seems like over a month the days seem to drag on and on for me. I try to keep busy by reading, taking walks and also going online and trying to keep my mind occupied.
I just want to be stable for more than a month that is my goal but I sure can't seem to reach it lately.
Well, the weekend is finally here and I hope to keep busy and along the way have a little fun which is just what the doctor ordered. Until next time stay active and safe.

Its Been awhile since my last post sorry about that!

I know it's been awhile since my last post, I just have been so busy I have not been able to getting around to posting. I am going to try to post more often and try to be more candid. Since the last time I posted I have gone to see NHRA drag racing which was surely an adrenaline rush. I got to meet and to get autographs from such drivers as John Force and his daughter Ashley to drivers Robert Hight and Greg Anderson to name a few. The very next day I attended a White Sox game where the Sox were hosting the Detroit Tigers. Pitcher Jose Contreras was great as he allowed one hit while the White Sox won 6-1. This weekend I plan to participate in a Perch fishing tournament tomorrow morning at Lake Michigan's Northerly Island. I have to be there at 4:30Am for registration which means I will have to go to bed extra early tonight. Well other than that I have been feeling good and remaining active and also trying to get plenty of sleep and eating right along the way.
So until next time stay active and safe.

Don't Ever give up and don't ever give in

Remember you should never give up no matter how bad things get, you may think they will never get better but just remember their is always brighter days ahead. I know when I am feeling down and depressed I always reflect on how I felt before and what I did when I was feeling great this makes it so much easier to get past the tough times.
Remember don't ever give in to your feelings that is the worst thing you can do when dealing with Bipolar Disorder especially when you are feeling depressed. You should I repeat never give in to your feelings because it can have dire consequences in the end. Instead of giving in try to think about how it will be when you feeling yourself again this will give you so much reason for hope and want to see the brighter days that are ahead. So with that said always remember no matter how hard or dark the days get always remember brighter days lay ahead. I have been through a lot since my last post. I was hospitalized for a short period because I tried to hurt myself. I am currently doing well, I am still on the same meds and hope that I continue to stay on the right track to staying stable. I know now it is surely going to take a huge commitment on my part to stay stable but I know better than anyone I can do that with flying colors.
My last hospitalization before my last two weeks ago was back in 2002 so it was about 7 years since my last which I think is very good. But, I know I must try very hard to stay out of the hospital and not to ever try to hurt myself again. I know it is just very selfish to want to end your own life because those left behind are left with so many questions and no answers to why and how they could and wish they could have done something to help. I need to reach out more for help and remember everything is not as bad as it may seem and always I mean always I need to keep a positive mindset. So with that note Please stay active and safe and I will talk you again!

Hello again!

Just wanted to check in and say hi! Been feeling pretty good accept for my teeth bothering since my visit to the dentist on Thursday, had to have an extraction so I have been bothered by a sore mouth and pain on my gums since.
I have been taking pain medication to relieve the pain. I will say I would take this pain over any Bipolar Episode that I have dealt with in the past. Now that is definitely saying something, their is always something good that can come out of something that may be bothering you or that is painful to you. Just remember by doing something you enjoy such as writing, reading, or any other activity can help with both your problems and your pain. I have been doing great the last two weeks and I been keeping busy with my business. I am a seller on both Ebay.com and Amazon.com. On Ebay I sell old Prewar and Post War Lionel Trains while on Amazon I tend to sell books, DVDs, CDs and other media. I oversee all the aspects of the business from the listings on down to the shipping. So I am extremely busy with Ebay.com from taking photos to writing up excellent descriptions of each listing and also responding to customers questions. On Amazon.com it is a lot easier since all you have to do is give the item ISBN and the condition and they provide the picture if there is one.
It's great to own a business, but let just say it is not for everyone since a lot of work has to go into it and it takes a lot of planning to keep your business running smoothly. I have gotten out more, I have been exercising more and most of all been watching my diet. mostly eating healthier foods such as fruit and vegetables and trying to limit my sweets intake plus eating less salty foods such as chips etc. I have gotten the right amount of sleep each day and feel great each morning. See following these simple steps can make all the difference between stability and being unstable. Which would you rather have? I know I would choose stability any day. Its been a up and down week for me but its Friday and I am feeling a lot better. My BP Episode began last week and continued until mid-week but here it is Friday and the Weekend is upon us. I am glad I got over this Episode but each Episode seems to be more and more difficult to handle but I do manage.
Everything I write on this blog seems to be great advice to other's who struggle with BP but it is much harder for me to practice what I write. Well, any way I am glad I got over my Episode with flying colors. I do know I have to better my routine, getting adequate sleep, watching my diet and exercising. One thing I think I have the most struggle with is "ISOLATION." I capitalized isolation because it is a trigger I struggle with the most, I tend to shut myself out to the outside world.
I do use the my computer for all that I do from getting the news, doing business and also participating in Fantasy Sports Games. The Fantasy Sport Games is a topic for another day.
So, wow this was definitely a great change in topics from the dragged out topics on advice and so on. First off is diet you should try to avoid eating sugary and salty foods and try to substitute them with fruits and vegetables. Its all right sometimes to reward yourself with a piece of cake or a cookie but don't over do it. Secondly is exercising, you do not have to go to the gym everyday to exercise simply taking a walk two or three times a week is great or taking a ride on your bike. You do not have to exercise everyday try to exercise at least twice a week and maybe up that to three or four after a month or so. You will surely see the difference in how you feel and how much more energy you have.
Third is sleeping, at least getting eight hours of sleep or for some nine hours of sleep it is alright sometimes to go to bed late on the weekends but try to still get eight hours of sleep during the week it is important to be a on sleep schedule such as going to bed at 10:30 pm or 11:00 pm or earlier if you need to be up earlier. But the thing to remember is always try to get eight hours of sleep no matter what.
If you follow these three you will surely feel better and even notice that you have more energy too. So until next time stay active and safe!

The Importance of Supporters

Those who deal with Bipolar Disorder should know having supporters who can help you out in times of need and make sure you keep your treatment plan ongoing are very important. That is why it is essential to have a supporter you can trust and definitely know they will be there in your time of need.
The best people to choose as a supporter would be a family member or a very close friend. With that assurance and new found hope they now can instill it into their daily lives.
So with all that said if you have been just diagnosed or have been dealing with Bipolar Disorder for a while always remember there are indeed brighter days ahead. The number one thing you should know and follow is do not let Bipolar Disorder control your life do not let it stop you from doing the stuff you love and being with the people you enjoy being around. Remember Isolation only brings on Depressive Episodes and if you want to avoid any episodes at all then you should not Isolate yourself from the outside world. But, you may have others such as finding a new job, meeting someone new, making more friends or spending more time with family.
Whatever your 2009 goals maybe be sure to write them down or type them onto your computer so you can refer back to them to see how your progress is going a month from now or two months from now and so on.
Goals are important not only in are daily lives but for the future they make us look forward to something, they make us think about the weeks, months and years ahead. Which is great for someone who may be dealing with Bipolar Disorder. Just remember goal setting and achieving those goals brings much accomplishment to the person who set those goals in the first place.
So until next time stay active and safe!

It's been awhile since my last post!

Sorry that it has been awhile since my last post but I thought since we are less than two days away from 2009 I would get back in touch. I know most people for the New Year make resolutions such as dieting, exercising but after a week or two those resolutions are forgotten about. So I thought what better way than to make a resolution that is geared to maintaining your stability when it comes BP. Some great resolutions to make for example are making sure you take your medicine regularly, trying to get adequate amount of sleep nightly. Ok, I guess I will have to also include exercising but a better way to look at is making sure you stay active daily. Remember do not forget to laugh because laughter can go a great way in brightening your day. So until 2009 Have a Happy and Healthy New Year! And do not forget stay active and safe!

Sorry I have not posted in a while But here is some more good advice to remember!

With the Holidays fast approaching such as Thanksgiving and Christmas it is important for people who deal with Bipolar Disorder to stay on top of their habits and watch for signs that could lead to a episode. Whether it is a manic or depressive either way you want to try to avoid them as much as possible. One great ways is by making sure you don't get into bad habits such as staying up late or eating the wrong foods. Try to avoid sweet foods it is fine to eat the occasional sweet here and there but do not over do it because it could lead to a severe episode. Try not to stay out too late or up to long it is certainly fine to do on one or two occasions but do not make it a trend.
For some the Holidays are the worst of times because this is the time of year when they have to deal with a depressive episode it could just happen because they are lonely or their family is not coming over this year. Simple things like this can trigger an episode but make sure you stay diligent and be on the up and up so you can stay stable so you will be able to enjoy the Holidays with your family and friends. So until next time stay active and safe!

Volunteering your time

When you may be dealing with Bipolar Disorder or even getting over a episode its always great to volunteer your time to someone or to some organization. It can be a parent, a sibling, a friend and even a neighbor. This person should be reliable and they should be a person you can count on to look after you when your going through a episode. Supporters are compassionate they help you but they should not have to things like bathe you, administer your medicine or put your clothes on for you. Supporters should be around to give you encouragement, help you gain your confidence and self-esteem back and also help in preventing episodes from occurring.
Supporters should help in looking for the warning signs of an impending episodes and remind you what you should do in order to stop it from occurring. It sounds easier said than done but if you find the right supporter who is concerned for your well being and wants to see you happy and succeeding in your life then you will be glad he or she came around to help in your path to recovery. Make it a point to do something each day that is different from your last. It can be the simplest thing such as riding a bike, taking a walk or watching your favorite sport. Make sure to incorporate change each day because it helps getting you through problems and hardships in our lives. Remember life is difficult for us all, it is how we deal with it that counts the most. The number one thing to always follow is never give up in your life no matter how hard things get. I too have gone through hardships and still deal with them today but I know I need to keep a positive attitude and just give it my all each day. Well that is my advice for today. Until next time stay active and safe!

Setting out to Accomplish your Dreams and Goals

Everyone has dreams some are small dreams while others are big dreams but all are dreams that can be accomplish regardless of your circumstances. Those who deal with Bipolar Disorder are often told to give up on their dreams because they will never be able to accomplish what it is they set out to do. That is a lie and myth, even though you may have Bipolar Disorder that should never deter you from reaching and accomplishing your dreams. Do not let an obstacle such as Bipolar Disorder get in the way of any of your dreams or goals that you want to accomplish. The one important thing to do is surround yourself with people who are supportive of your dreams and goals and can encourage you to never give up on them.
I know setting goals and having dreams may be difficult when going through a depressive episode but you can easily write one or two goals down on paper and return to them at a later time. Same goes for dreams you have for the future be sure to write them down and you can go back to them to make sure that you don't give up on them.
So once again let me say be sure to set goals and have dreams for your future just because you may have Bipolar Disorder it does not mean you have to give up on your goals and dreams just keep reaching and working hard and you will see how much you can really accomplish along the way.
Until next time stay active and safe!

The Pros and Cons of Support Groups

Most patients who have Bipolar Disorder don't know if support groups are effective or not. So I thought I would just go over some of the Pros and Cons of Support Groups. First I will give you the Pros.
1. Support Groups allow you to share not only problems you may be having but also possible solutions with others who may be going to the same problems as you.
2. Support Groups are a great way to meet others who go through the same ups and downs that you experience.
3. Support Groups are an excellent way to build up friendships.
4. Support Groups allow you and others who care for you to express their feelings.
5. Support Groups give you hope that things will truly be alright.

Now onto the Cons of Support Groups
1. Support Groups tend to bring together people who share only criticisms of people who deal with Bipolar Disorder.
2. Support Groups leaves the Bipolar sufferer feeling worst because they are not given any hope to overcome their problems.
3. Support Groups sometimes have attendees that whine and complain about how bad they have it but can not do anything to change it.
4. Support Groups sometimes can lead to arguments and disagreements which can be very detrimental to a person's progress who has Bipolar Disorder.
5. Support Groups do not always give you useful coping strategies and sometimes leave you feeling empty.
Well, those are the Pros and Cons of Support Groups. Again support groups do often help but sometimes they can also bring along more stress and hardship. There are many options for anyone who has Bipolar Disorder you just have to be the one that takes the first step in asking for help.
Until next time stay active and safe!

Don't let Bipolar Disorder Take Over Your Life

It is very important to not let Bipolar Disorder take over your life. You should not allow the Disorder stand in your way of accomplishing whatever it is you want to accomplish. These accomplishments do not have to be huge. They can be as small as getting out and taking a walk or even going to see a friend to talk to. Believe me it would do you a lot of good if you got out of your same routine and did something you may have not done in a while.
One trap that people who are dealing with Bipolar Disorder tend to fall into is isolating themselves from the outside world they simply shut themselves out of everything that is going on including staying away from family and not attending family functions. I know this firsthand because I have done it myself, even though it may be difficult to approach or embarrassing to show yourself at family functions it can do you a lot of good. The interaction with people will be comforting and also it helps to take your mind off of problems that may have been bothering you lately.
So until next time stay active and safe!

If your struggling to stay on track here are 7 ways to stay on track

1. Don't be lazy, you may be without a job or your collecting disability. You may lose your sense of direction when you have nothing to wake up for each morning. So don't get lazy because your not working. One thing you can do is make a can do list and follow it out each day. Something that will help you get out of bed and accomplish a day's goal.

2. Make Sure you stick to your treatment plan, see your doctor regularly and therapist, take your medicine, eat right, sleep right and exercise daily.

3. Try to make a Buddy System, it can be someone from a support group or someone who knows what you are going through and might be going through the same struggles as you. You can talk to this person, do things together such as going to a see a movie or grabbing something to eat.

4. Try to be Independent, try to do things yourself and not depend on others to be there to wait on you hand and foot. Believe me when you have some independence it makes you feel so much more confident and proud of yourself.

5. Give yourself a pat on the back once in awhile, commend yourself for something you may have accomplished or share it with someone you care about. Doing this makes you feel so great and also more happy.

6. Don't ever give up always say you can get back up or over whatever you maybe going through and you most certainly will. Never say you can't get over something or that your life will never get better because it will you just have to have patience and take one day at a time.

7. Finally the last one is to always have confidence in your abilities and in yourself because you never know how far it can get you until you truly try to make the best of every precious moment you have on this earth. Make sure to live each day to the fullest and never give up.
Until next time stay active and safe!

Learning from your own faults

When someones who has bipolar disorder its always important to learn from your mistakes and learn from you own faults that you have made in the past. Like myself I had a tendency to stay up very late but now and for the past couple of months have gone to bed earlier which has really made me feel good. I also had a lousy habit of eating snacks and lots of junk food I have since cut down on my junk food intake and substituted with more fruit and vegetables which also has given me more energy and made me feel great.
See little mistakes or even big mistakes you may have made in past are always good to remember because you can learn to prevent yourself from making the same mistake again or committing the same fault over again.
Another way to learn from your faults is to go back or think about what may have caused a manic or depressive episode and try not to make the same mistake again. This is a great way to prevent episodes from occurring way to often in person that may be dealing with Bipolar Disorder.
Until next time stay active and safe!

A Poem about Bipolar Disorder

This is a poem I wrote some time ago that I thought I would share with you.

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder is like a roller coaster
that go's up and drops right down
It grabs hold of your life
and squeezes very hard with all
its might until you give in with all
your fears in plain sight.
Bipolar Disorder tries to consume
your every thought and take over your
whole darn life.
Bipolar Disorder clouds your mind and
swallows you up until you decide
Enough is Enough and You
Want To Take Back Your Life!

Tackling Depression

This article can be especially helpful to those who struggle with depressive episodes and those who have been diagnosed with Depression but not Bipolar Disorder.

I know firsthand how depression can easily takeaway the things in which you love doing the most and how it can also keep you away from the people you love spending the most time with.
Myself, have dealt with depression and through the years learned how to deal with and tackle depression head on through littlest of things that I will go into shortly.
Depression is very consuming it overtakes most of your life and makes you feel hopeless, worthless, stressful and completely drained.

Some of the things that you can do to tackle depression are exercising daily for 15 to 30 minutes just to make you feel better. You can also do what I am doing here writing, it takes your mind off of other things that maybe bothering you but you just can not seem to get rid of.
Another, way is to read an interesting novel, article or any other form of reading so you focus on something other than what maybe bringing you down. Talking to friends or family can also help it can relieve some of the stress, the feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness all of which develop during depression.

I have found throughout my dealing with depression that seeking out help from a trained professional such as a therapist or psychiatrist can also help in just having someone to talk to you can do wonders. If you need they can also suggest that you see a doctor that may prescribe medicine to you that you can take to help in keeping you depression free.

All of these suggestions and also the methods that I used with dealing with depression are just some of the very suggestions and methods that worked for me. There are definitely many other ways to tackle depression you just have to try any activity that can keep your mind occupied and also remember there is always someone out there that is willing to listen to your problems. Remember your not alone and you can get through depression just do not give up.

Dealing With Bipolar Disorder

This Article is an article I have written a while back but it is a very good article that can really help any individual who may have just been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder.

Having Bipolar Disorder is not as bad as it sounds and certainly is not as bad as it may seem. Dealing with Bipolar Disorder can seem like a daunting task but it can actually be easy to deal with if you have the right treatment plan and receive support from your family and friends.I Myself have Bipolar Disorder, I was first diagnosed at the age of 18. It has been about eleven years since I was first diagnosed but since that time I have been able to develop a excellent treatment plan and receive the support I need to live the life I am use to.
One of the most important aspect in dealing with Bipolar Disorder is to make sure you have an excellent treatment plan. A treatment plan is comprised of having a regular doctor that you can count on when your in need of medicine and advice. The second part of the plan is having a therapist that can help you deal with your Bipolar Disorder. He or she can help by guiding you in your recovery process and also by being there in your time of need.
Most people who do not have a treatment plan or fail to follow their treatment plan seem to to have many setbacks. They have a harder time dealing with Bipolar disorder and also in trying to figure out what triggered a depressive or manic episode. They are less informed about their illness and they simply do not care of whether or not they ever get better.
Another, great way that helps in dealing with Bipolar Disorder is by keeping a journal, this allows you to keep track of your progress, keep you addressed about your symptoms and figure out possible triggers that cause a episode. Keeping a journal can also help with the progress being made with your treatment plan from helping you to remember to take your medicine to helping you keep up with your appointments.
Remember when dealing with Bipolar Disorder you should also try to keep a schedule of your daily task from the time you get up to the time you go the bed. One reason why it is important to keep a schedule is because one of the biggest triggers of an episode is disruption in your daily life whether it is lack of sleep, not exercising or a change in your diet. Having a schedule can help to prevent a depressive or manic episodes from occurring and also help you to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
There are many common triggers that can cause depressive or manic episodes but some can easily be avoided. Some of the triggers that are easy to avoid are the ones like when you stop taking your medicine because your feeling better or you start sleeping less because you want to stay out later or stay up longer. Other triggers such as misusing alcohol or drugs are much harder to overcome thus making it harder to avoid.
Following or at least trying to carry out some of the above advice will definitely help you deal with Bipolar Disorder and also help you in your road to recovery. So if you or someone you know uses theses simple measures they will have a greater chance of staying on top of their illness and also help themselves to make the process of dealing with Bipolar Disorder that much easier.
Bipolar Disorder might be a life long illness but always remember it can easily be dealt with if you have the right treatment plan and you take the necessary steps to help in your road to recovery. It does take time to get back to the life you truly cherish so do not ever give up hope or get discouraged!

Getting back to fighting Bipolar

Fighting Bipolar is difficult but one can make it easier as I said before if you follow a treatment plan and you have one in place. This means to see your doctor on a regular basis, follow up with your therapist and I stress take your medicines. The other parts of the treatment plan are just as important as the first three I mentioned and that is to watch your diet, exercise regularly and try to stay active.
Bipolar Disorder tries to take over your life but you are the only one that can prevent that from happening. It is very important to have a treatment plan in place and you should follow it through even if you are feeling 100 % stable. For example if you have a stressful job maybe it would help if you found another job that is less stressful. You do not have to quit your job right away but if you search the want ads send out some resumes maybe you can find a job you love and one that is less stressful. Another, way to relieve stress is by not getting on yourself about making mistakes or not letting go of the past. Try to this and you see how much less stress you have in your life.
One of the biggest ways to relieve stress is by trying to pay off debts if you have them, everybody knows that having a large amount of debts brings along a lot of stress. Ways you can work at paying your debts is by saving more and spending less. The more you save can be the little extra that you pay to get your debts in check.
One huge source of stress can come from family relationships ways you can reduce your stress from relationships is by maybe spending less time with them, requesting a family member to become peacemaker or even a negotiator between whomever you have been arguing with or fighting with. One last way is suggesting group or family counseling to work out any problems or disagreement you may be having.
The main thing to remember is to deal with stress early on rather than letting it build up more and more. When you this you will help to reduce the chance of a stress-related episode from occurring.
Until next time stay active and safe!

Thinking Positive and Not Negative

When dealing with Bipolar Disorder or when one is recovering from a Bipolar Episode it is essential to think positively and not negatively. Just going for a walk around the block or slow jog can help or if you prefer you can even join a gym or a fitness program at your local park. Getting exercise helps to stimulate the growth of neurons in the brain that are damage during depression also it helps to reduce symptoms of depression nearly as effective as anti-depressants.
Exercise is an integral part of your daily routine that can help or at least prevent an episode from occurring. You do not have to set huge goals like saying I will move into a new apartment next month. Rather, try setting simpler goals for yourself, like saying tomorrow and all next week I will take a walk around the neighborhood. Simple goals guide you in the right direction in the recovery process and they give you something to look forward to each day. The symptoms differ from a depressive episode to a manic episode during a depressive episode you lose interest in normal activities, you feel like your hopeless, worthless or have thoughts of guilt. You may be sleeping too little or too much, their may also be noticeable weight loss. You often feel tired and possess little or no energy. Last but not least is one that most people with Bipolar Disorder experience and that is having difficulty concentrating or making decisions.
When one is experiencing a manic episode the symptoms include increase energy level, less need of sleep, racing thoughts and your mind seems to jump around. Your also easily distracted extremely more talkative and more self-confidence comes along. Plus, when one is in manic episode he or she may focus more on getting things done but accomplishing less. The last seems to effect a lot of people who experience manic episodes that is taking part in risky and unusual activities unaware of the consequences that follow their actions. Some other triggers that can cause Bipolar are seasonal changes, illness, disagreement with family or friends, Holidays can also lead to an episode. Some others also include death of a love one, marriage, beginning school and even starting a new job.
A great way to figure out what your triggers are is to keep a diary of moods mainly a chart that can keep track of your moods and help you determine some patterns that may be noticed. It is very hard to do this alone, one way to figure out your triggers is maybe talking to a friend or therapist that can give an honest opinion.
Once you find out some of the triggers that cause an episode you can try to avoid these triggers. Other triggers can be approached carefully if you do not have any control over them. These triggers include illness, death to a love one, starting a new job or school. You just have to approach them carefully and keep open mind.
Next time I will write about treatments for Bipolar Disorder. Hypomania is a mild form of mania. The mood swings also may occur when the seasons change.
The third type is Cyclothymic Disorder which is a milder form of Bipolar. You may go back and forth between mild depression and slightly elevated mood. The moods swings are shorter and less severe. Sometimes people with cyclothymic disorder go on to have a stronger type of bipolar disorder but it certainly does not happen to everyone.
The Forth type is Bipolar not otherwise specified which in this type you do not fit into the other types.
